Alpha Mine Rescue

There are 210 miners employed by Alpha affiliated companies who voluntarily serve on one of Alpha's 22 mine rescue teams at mines in Kentucky, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia. Each team has seven to 10 members.

The miners who volunteer for this service are extremely selfless and brave, literally “the best of the best.” Each year, they undergo many hours of training to learn safe techniques for entering mines, ventilation procedures and how to use mine maps and rescue equipment.

As a mine rescue dog, Ginny is considered an important member of Alpha’s mine rescue operations. She regularly trains with teams so they know how best to use her and when.
